On 22 May, Dietmar Paier and Johannes Wetzinger from the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna presented the Erasmus+ project “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Teaching and Learning” (AI-HED) at the “U!REKA Connects 2025” event in Helsinki. “U!REKA Connects” is the annual flagship event of the “Urban Research and Education Knowledge Alliance” (U!REKA). U!REKA is a European University Alliance comprising 30 institutions from across Europe, including higher education institutions, cities, regional and district councils, and European networks. This year, the event took place at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland, on 21 and 22 May. More than 400 representatives from the U!REKA network participated in the gathering.

On May 8th and 9th, 2025, the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna successfully organized a workshop on the “Development of Pilot Courses”. This two-day event in Vienna was part of the EU-funded project „Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education Teaching and Learning“ (AI-HED) and focused on developing syllabi for innovative pilot courses that integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the teaching and learning process.

In total, 24 syllabi for pilot courses from various disciplines were prepared during the workshop. 39 lecturers and AI-HED team members from the University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (School of Communication and Media Studies), and the University of Zagreb (Faculty of Organization and Informatics) participated in the international event.

A two-day workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the context of higher education, held on February 26 and March 5, 2025, brought together more than 100 educators from four partner institutions in the Netherlands, Austria, Croatia, and Portugal.

On 7 and 8 November 2024, the kick-off meeting for the AI-HED Project took place at the School of Communication and Media of the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (ESCS-IPL).

After many months of working together to prepare the proposal and with the project already in its beginning stages, with various activities already underway and after several online meetings, the team met in person to officially start the project.
